This step by step diy project is about 6×8 gambrel shed plans. This is a small shed that can be built in a few days with a small budget. This shed features a gambrel shaped roof and an access door to the front. Make sure you read the local codes and make adjustments if necessary. When buying the lumber, you should select the planks with great care, making sure they are straight and without any visible flaws (cracks, knots, twists, decay). Investing in cedar or other weather resistant lumber is a good idea, as it will pay off on the long run. Use a spirit level to plumb and align the components, before inserting the galvanized screws, otherwise the project won’t have a symmetrical look. Building a 6×8 garden shed
Floor-frame-for-6×8-gambrel-shed
First of all you have to assemble the floor frame. Cut the components from 2×6 lumber at the dimensions shown in the plans. Drill pilot holes through the 96″ long joists and insert 3″ screws into the perpendicular components. Make sure the corners are square and align the edges with attention before inserting the screws.
Fitting the skids – 6×8 Gambrel Shed
Next, fit the 6×6 skids under the floor frame. Use rafter ties to secure the skids to the floor frame.
Floor sheets – 6×8 shed
Next, attach the 3/4″ plywood panels to the floor frame. Align the edges and leave no gaps between the panels for a professional result. Drill pilot holes and insert 1 5/8″ screws every 8″ along the joists.
Back-wall-frame-for-6×8-barn-shed
Build the back wall for the shed using the information from the above diagram. Start by cutting all the components from 2×4 lumber. Drill pilot holes through the plates and insert 3 1/2″ galvanized screws into the studs. Make sure you place the place the studs spaced as shown in the plans, otherwise you won’t be able to install the siding panels.
Assemble the side walls in the same manner described above.
Front-wall-frame—small-barn-shed
Building the front wall is a more complex job, as you need to frame the door opening. In addition, you need to fit the double header to the top of the opening. Build the header from 2 pieces of 2×4 lumber and a piece of 1/2″ plywood. Use glue and 3 1/2″ screws to lock everything together tightly.
Fitting the side walls
Fit the frames to the floor of the shed. Align the edges flush and make sure the corners are square. In addition, use a spirit level to make sure the walls are plumb. Drill pilot holes through the bottom plates and insert 3 1/2″ screws into the floor of the 6×8 shed. Don’t forget to lock the adjacent walls together, as well.
Siding sheets
Build the exterior walls from 5/8″ T1-11 siding. As you can notice in the diagram, you need to make some cuts to the sheets that go to the front wall. In addition, you need to cut a sheet of 4×8 siding on half and attach it to the sides of the shed. Use 8d galvanized nails to secure the sheets to the wall frames. Align everything with attention and insert the nails every 8″ along the studs.
