CNN Names Joan Biskupic Chief Supreme Court Analyst (2024)

CNN has tabbed Joan Biskupic to serve as the network’s Chief Supreme Court Analyst.

Biskupic has covered the court for more than 25 years and has previously reported extensively on Chief Justice John Roberts. In 2015, she was a Pulitzer Prize finalist for explanatory journalism for her reporting on Supreme Court lawyers.

She joined CNN in 2017 as a full-time legal analyst. Previously, she has worked in legal and Supreme Court-focused roles at Reuters, The Washington Post, and USA Today.

She has penned several books on the Supreme Court and its current and former justices, including Roberts, Sanda Day O’Connor, Antonin Scalia, and Sonia Sotomayor, among others.

Additionally, Joan Biskupic served as a law school professor at UC Irvine in 2016 and 2017.

Fox News is taking its entire primetime lineup to Milwaukee for the upcoming Republican National Convention. And while Greg Gutfeld will be on location, that doesn’t mean the convention will be the only topic of conversation.

Gutfeld! will air at 11 PM ET — an hour later than its usual time — during the convention to make way for a special news program hosted by Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum.

But the late-night show will be in the Wisconsin city speaking with a panel of usual guests. And with that usual cast of characters means that the content of the program isn’t likely to change from its usual format.

“It’s people who Greg loves and has good chemistry with,” Executive Producer Tom O’Connor told TVNewser. “I don’t think it’ll be wall-to-wall RNC coverage for the whole hour, either. If there’s the kind of pop culture stuff that we do in the back half, we’ll still do that. That’s stuff that Greg always wants to talk about.”

O’Connor added that “It was an easy decision” to move Gutfeld! to Milwaukee for the Republican National Convention. He continued by noting that Greg Gutfeld being more comfortable as the host of the show allows for more on-location programs.

Tucker Carlson has been off TV since his April 2023 ouster from Fox News. That’s about to change with the launch of an app for his Tucker Carlson Network.

In an email to subscribers, the Tucker Carlson Network revealed “Our team has spent months developing the new TCN TV app, and it’s about to go live. When this app is released, you’ll be able to watch Tucker on your TV at any time.“

The Tucker Carlson Network app will join a growing field of smart TV apps in recent months. Nearly every network news outlet has a free, ad-supported TV streaming app with products like NBC News Now, ABC Live, and the recently rebranded CBS News 24/7.

It is unclear if the new app will require a subscription to the network to watch the various video programs being produced by the former cable news host.

Currently, subscriptions to the platform cost $9 monthly or $72 for the entire year.

After less than a year in the role, CBS News President Ingrid Ciprian-Matthews has departed the network in what is a reported cost-cutting measure.

Ciprian-Matthews informed employees Wednesday morning that she was vacating her role and will transition to serve as a “senior advisor” for coverage of the 2024 presidential race.

“Some may be asking why I’m announcing this now. We all know our industry and company are going through a transformation and a number of short- and long-term decisions need to be made,” Ciprian-Matthews wrote in a memo, according toVariety. “ I do not want to be disingenuous with any of you about who should drive these decisions. I’ve always leaned into my integrity and my values, and I felt it was important to be transparent at this juncture about my plans.”

She stepped into the role vacated by Neeraj Khemlani, who exited last year amid allegations that he was verbally abusive toward female colleagues.

Ingrid Ciprian-Matthews’ exit coincides with recent reports that Paramount Global — the parent company of CBS — was merging with Skydance Media as part of an $8 billion deal.

Should the role of CBS News President be filled, the hire will be the fourth person to claim that title since 2021.
